Safeguarding Policy

Introduction:

At the Surrey Rifle and Pistol Club, we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all our members, visitors, and participants. We recognize the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of individuals, particularly children and vulnerable adults. This safeguarding policy outlines our commitment to protecting the welfare of all those involved with our club and provides guidelines for appropriate conduct and reporting procedures.


Policy Statement:

  1. The Surrey Rifle and Pistol Club is committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment that promotes the well-being and safety of all individuals associated with the club, including members, visitors, volunteers, and employees.
  2. We will adhere to all relevant legislation and guidelines concerning safeguarding, including but not limited to child protection and vulnerable adult protection laws.
  3. The club will actively promote an ethos that ensures everyone feels safe, valued, and respected, regardless of their age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
  4. All club members, employees, volunteers, and visitors have a responsibility to report any concerns they may have regarding the welfare and safety of individuals associated with the club.


Key Principles:

  1. Prevention: We will take proactive measures to minimize the risk of harm to individuals by promoting awareness, education, and training on safeguarding matters.
  2. Safeguarding Officer: The club will appoint a designated Safeguarding Officer who will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the safeguarding policy and acting as a point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.
  3. Safer Recruitment: The club will follow robust recruitment procedures, including background checks and reference checks, to ensure that individuals working with vulnerable groups are suitable and safe.
  4. Codes of Conduct: We will establish and promote a clear code of conduct for all individuals involved with the club, emphasizing appropriate behavior and the importance of respecting boundaries.
  5. Reporting Procedures: We will provide clear and accessible reporting procedures for anyone with concerns regarding safeguarding issues. All concerns will be taken seriously, and appropriate action will be taken following the relevant guidelines and legislation.
  6. Confidentiality: Information about individuals and safeguarding concerns will be treated confidentially and shared only on a need-to-know basis, following data protection regulations.
  7. Training and Awareness: The club will provide regular training and educational resources to all members, employees, and volunteers to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities, understand the signs of abuse, and know how to respond appropriately.


Implementation and Review:

  1. This safeguarding policy will be communicated to all club members, employees, volunteers, and visitors, who will be expected to read, understand, and adhere to its principles.
  2. The policy will be regularly reviewed and updated as necessary, reflecting changes in legislation, best practices, and club requirements.
  3. The Safeguarding Officer will be responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of this policy, ensuring compliance, and making recommendations for improvements when necessary.
  4. The policy will be made available on the club's website, notice boards, and other appropriate communication channels.
