Alcohol and Drugs Policy
Introduction:
The Surrey Rifle and Pistol Club recognizes the importance of maintaining a safe and responsible environment for all our members, visitors, and participants. This policy outlines our position on alcohol and drugs, emphasizing that while alcohol is not forbidden within the club premises, members and guests must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on the range or in possession of firearms.
Policy Statement:
- The Surrey Rifle and Pistol Club is committed to ensuring the safety of all individuals associated with the club and the responsible use of firearms.
- While the consumption of alcohol is not forbidden within the club premises, no member or guest shall be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on the range or in possession of firearms.
- The club expects all members and guests to act responsibly, maintaining clear judgment, coordination, and attention while participating in shooting activities.
Key Principles:
- Responsible Consumption: Members and guests are responsible for consuming alcohol in a manner that does not impair their ability to handle firearms safely or participate in shooting activities effectively.
- No Alcohol or Drugs on the Range: Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited on the shooting range. This includes the consumption or possession of alcohol or drugs, including illegal substances and prescription medications that may impair judgment or coordination.
- Zero Tolerance for Intoxication: Any member or guest found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on the range or in possession of firearms will be subject to immediate disciplinary action, which may include temporary or permanent suspension from club activities.
- Education and Awareness: The club will provide regular education and awareness programs regarding the responsible use of alcohol and the risks associated with combining alcohol or drugs with firearms. This will include information on the effects of alcohol and drugs on judgment, coordination, and safety.
- Reporting Concerns: Members and guests are encouraged to report any concerns they may have about individuals who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on the range or in possession of firearms. Reports will be treated confidentially and taken seriously, and appropriate action will be taken following club guidelines and procedures.
Implementation and Review:
- This Alcohol and Drugs Policy will be communicated to all club members, employees, volunteers, and visitors, who will be expected to read, understand, and comply with its principles.
- The policy will be regularly reviewed and updated as necessary, reflecting changes in legislation, best practices, and club requirements.
- The responsibility for implementing and monitoring this policy will be assigned to a designated Club Safety Officer, who will oversee compliance, provide guidance, and address any concerns or queries related to alcohol and drugs.
